Database administration, which involves designing, building, and managing effective database systems, will be one of the fastest growing occupations over the next few years. The Washington State Employment Security Department projects that the number of database administrators in Washington State will grow 15.1% between 2007 and 2017.

The Database Administrator Certificate Program was designed with the input of industry professionals to target the skills that employers value most. Instructors are database experts currently working in the field. Courses are interactive, and lab work and hands-on learning are heavily emphasized.
The Database Administrator Certificate Program prepares students to perform tasks such as • Backing up and restoring a database • Integrating data from various sources • Troubleshooting problems • Implementing security measures • Ensuring the availability and performance of the database • Coordinating activities with network and web administrators.
To earn the certificate, students must complete 190 course hours of required coursework in • Database design • SQL and T-SQL • T-SQL programming • PowerShell • Beginning SQL Server 2012 • SQL Server 2012 Administration • SQL Server Optimization and Performance Tuning • Certificate Capstone.
The required course hours include the final Capstone course, in which students design and complete the Capstone Project, which is the finishing piece in their professional portfolio. The Capstone Project provides a means of showcasing all of the skills learned in their previous courses for potential employers.
The program’s small classes let instructors give students personal attention. Classes are taught during evenings and weekends to accommodate the schedules of working professionals. Our flexible program lets you start any quarter you like and finish at your own pace. You can take as few as one or two classes a week. Although the program can be completed in a year and a half, you may take as long as three years to earn your certificate.
