Advising and Placement Testing

Prepare for Advising

The Distance Education program offers academic advising for students who plan to fulfill most or all of their degree requirements through distance courses.  Staff can help plan your program to ensure that you receive the credits you need for your study interests.  They will take you through the registration process, and help ensure that you acquire all books and course materials.  They can also serve as contacts in case you have questions or concerns during your course work.

As a first step, we urge you to decide: is distance learning for you?  Then check the academic calendar to find out where you are in the academic year.  Current and upcoming offerings are found on the List of Distance Courses. Note that complete course descriptions are given only for classes currently running or classes that will be given in the next quarter. Courses offered for the next quarter are posted about two months before the end of the current quarter, in plenty of time for registration.  If you don't see next quarter's calendar, check back later.

Placement Testing

Before you can register for a math or English composition course, and many other courses, you must meet certain prerequisites. Prerequisites for courses are listed in the BCC Catalog, in Quarterly Schedules, and in the course descriptions accessible from the List of Distance Courses.

For information about math and English placement, go to the English placement page or the math placement page or communicate with an advisor listed in the table below.

Before you may take the placement tests for math and English, you must be enrolled at BCC and have received your BCC Student Identification Number (SID).  If you are not yet enrolled at BCC, click on Registration in the menu to your left and follow the instructions for downloading and submitting an application for admission. Once you have received your Student Identification Number, you may take the placement tests.

Contact Distance Ed Advisors and Staff

We want to help you achieve your goals.  Do not hesitate to telephone or e-mail one of the advisors to have answered any questions about registration or the nature of the courses offered.
