AMST 286 analyzes various forms of contemporary popular culture and its expression in mass media.  Specific topics may include western and romance novels, consumerism, advertising, gender images, folklore, film, and music.             

 

This section deals with the history and influence of American Cinema from its earliest days to our current Hollywood Blockbusters and beyond.  Special attention will be devoted to the "Hollywood Star" system, the studio system and how American Films have reflected major themes in American society.
