Frontiers - Land and Space

This exciting course provides students with a different perspective on the history of our beautiful Pacific Northwest. We will look in depth at what life was like here and in Alaska from the turn of the century through WWII and the 1940’s. We will read the novel Snow Falling on Cedars, and examine political issues of the Japanese internment and the evolution of Asian American history in our society.

 

Students will be evaluated on the basis of class participation on the discussion board, a book report and on contribution to the collaborative class project. There are no formal exams in this course. Spaces fill up. Enroll today!

 

Dr. Herbert is a practicing attorney in the Seattle area. She has taught history and law as an adjunct instructor for a number of years. She is excited about being a part of the faculty on the BCC campus and is reputed for using a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach to teaching. She looks forward to lively online discussions with her class.
