Online Classroom Access
ABOUT THE CLASSROOM
Online classes are conducted
on a web-based, course management system
called Blackboard Vista, a product
of the Blackboard corporation, which is accessed
through a web browser such as Mozilla Firefox or
Microsoft Internet Explorer. Vista supports most of
the activities you will need to fulfill
course assignments, such as sending e-mail,
posting discussion messages, working in
groups on projects, etc. However, you may
also have to use production applications
that reside on your own computer, such as
word processing or presentation programs.
All students taking online courses will
need access to a computer for 10-15 hrs
per week per course, an internet account,
email and a Java-enabled web browser
QUICK NOTES
(1) BCC Distance Education classes follow
the college quarterly schedule. For quarter
start and end dates, withdrawal deadlines and refund
policies, please review the College
Calendar for credit students.
(2) Not all browsers work
the same and a few are not supported by Blackboard Vista.
To work successfully on the Vista server, you must
have a web browser that is supported and properly
"tuned up." If you are in doubt,
click on Browser Check (on the right side
of the Vista log-in page) and follow any recommendations
to tune up your browser. NOTE: the version
of WebCT-Vista currently used at BCC is Vista
8.0.
(3) If you have problems following
WebCT's recommendations to correct shortcomings
of your browser or operating system, try our troubleshooting
page.
