BCC CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT: Business Intelligence Developer

Updated to reflect Common Course Numbering, effective Summer 2008

What is it?

The Business Intelligence Developer certificate is designed to prepare students for positions developing Business Intelligence (BI) applications. Students learn to use the various technologies that comprise a Business Intelligence solution from presentation techniques to underlying data repository design.  The comprehensive program includes instruction in the following fundamental areas:

  • Design of data warehouses and data marts using dimensional modeling techniques
  • ETL (extract, transform and load) strategies for populating data warehouses and data marts
  • Design and creation of multi-dimensional databases (cubes) to facilitate analysis of large amounts of data
  • Use of reporting tools to present professional quality information in a clear and coherent manner
  • Use of analytic tools to explore and analyze data
  • Uses and techniques for data mining

This certificate program includes 7 BI courses covering such topics as Dimensional Modeling, Multi Dimensional Analysis, Data Warehousing, Data Mining and Data Visualization. Students will work with Microsoft SQL Server 2005 and Microsoft’s Business Intelligence Development Studio as they develop solutions for “real world” problems.

Students may use the computer labs on campus or they may obtain the software free of charge from the BCC Library Media Center (in which case it is the student’s responsibility to install and maintain the software).

More information on the program may be found at:  http://bellevuecollege.edu/bi

Business Intelligence Overview:

Business Intelligence professionals help organizations transform vast amounts of data into insight and action.  Business Intelligence (BI) has become essential in many organizations because it provides the means to deal with growing data volumes and increased data complexity. BI solutions are focused on identifying, acquiring and reporting the essential information needed to make informed decisions.

Cost per class:

The program requires application to Bellevue Community College to obtain a BCC student number, quarterly registration and payment of tuition, course fees, books and/or software for each class.  Please review the “What Will It Cost” page on the Distance Education Website for current information on tuition and fees.  If you qualify for the US Citizen/Permanent Resident tuition as noted in the middle column, you must contact the Distance Education Office or the Registrar’s Office for this reduced tuition.  After you register for classes, you must call to verify eligibility each quarter in order to have your final costs manually adjusted, otherwise you will be charged the higher non-resident tuition.  Questions about tuition and fees?  Give the Distance Education Office a call at 425-564-2438 or toll-free at 1-800-641-2712.
