First Time Aid Applicants

Relax! The process of applying for financial aid is not as difficult as it may seem. Just follow the steps below and you’ll be done before you know it! We’re here to help and there are many tools available to assist you.

Step 1:

Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) Each Year

  • The FAFSA is a federal application, and is required for all types of aid, including loans.
  • Make sure you select Bellevue College from the drop down menu on your application.
  • 1 – 2 weeks after you submit the FAFSA you receive a response from the federal processor, which includes a summary of your application. Review this carefully for accuracy. You can go back to your application and make corrections if needed.
  • Our office receives your FAFSA information electronically.

Step 1A:

DREAMer Students Only: Complete the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid)

  • Eligibility for several Washington State financial aid programs has expanded to include students who are ineligible for federal financial aid due to immigration status.
  • Complete the WASFA once each year.
  • Once you submit the WASFA, complete the remaining steps as indicated below.

Step 2:

Submit all Required Documents and Complete all Required Processes

  • Once we receive your FAFSA/WASFA information, we send an email to the address listed on your application. However, if you are admitted to the college we send it to your BC Email Address.
  • The email lists other documents or processes you must complete before your file is ready for review and a possible financial aid award.
    • Regularly view what is needed to complete your file using the Financial Aid Portal.
    • We review files based on the date you submitted the last required document to our office.
    • Some financial aid programs have limited funds. Submitting documents as soon as possible helps to ensure you receive all the aid you are eligible for. Also review the financial aid deadlines based on the quarter you plan to start school.

Step 3:

Admission and BC Financial Aid Application Requirements

BC Email: You are required to use it! This is the way we communicate with you. Once you are admitted to the college and receive your Student ID number, go here to set up your account.

Your Financial Aid Award

  • After you complete your file, we begin the process of awarding you financial aid based on your eligibility. Files are processed based on your File Completion date, and may take up to several months to award.
  • Even though your file is considered complete, once we begin processing we may find that additional information is needed. We notify you at your Bellevue College email address, or you may check your status using the Student Financial Aid Portal. Don’t worry, your file completion date does not change, but you must submit the additional documents or information within two weeks from the date on the email.
  • We send an email to your Bellevue College email address notifying you of your financial aid award. You can also view your award using the Student Financial Aid Portal.

Transferring Applicant

We’re glad you’re coming to Bellevue! Since you’ve already been through the financial aid process elsewhere, you are probably ready to get started right away. But before you do, there are some important things you need to know about transferring.

  • Each school has different rules and processes with how they process and award financial aid.  Your experience at another school may be different than it will be here at BC.
  • It’s likely that the information you gathered for that school will be similar to what you need to complete the process here. However, you need to complete additional documents so please lookout for correspondence from our office. Missing documents will hold up your application.
  • Most financial aid awarded is exhausted early in the year so please be aware that you may receive less financial aid at Bellevue than the school that you have transferred from.

Get started with Financial Aid

Step 1: Add our school code to your FAFSA

Go back onto the FAFSA website and add our school code (003769) so that we will receive your FAFSA results.

It usually takes 1-2 weeks for our office to receive the results of your FAFSA.

Step 2: Complete our financial aid application process

Step 3: Cancel aid that has already been awarded

If you have already been awarded aid at another school, contact that school to cancel your aid. Turn in a statement that your aid has been canceled to our office.

If you are planning on transferring credits to Bellevue, please have official transcripts sent to the Evaluations Office. See the Transfer website for more information.
