Fire Science Program Closure

Date posted: November 6, 2013

Beginning fall quarter 2013, the Bellevue College Fire Science program will no longer be accepting new students. For a variety of reasons, the program is no longer able to continue to offer courses toward the completion of an AA degree in Fire Science or Fire Officer, Fire Prevention or Fire Investigation Certificates of Completion.

Individuals interested in a career in the fire service are encouraged to contact Bates College or Everett Community College regarding education in fire science and to explore potential career pathways.

For continuing students looking to complete an AA degree in Fire Science, core courses will be offered through the end of the 2013-2014 academic year ending in June of 2014. Students intending to complete this part of their degree are encouraged to contact our office at 425-564-2012 to set up an appointment to review how to complete the fire science curriculum specific portion of the AA degree in Fire Science. Continuing students will need to complete general education course requirements to obtain the Fire Science degree by the end of spring quarter 2015.

For students intending to complete Fire Science core curriculum via the credit by certification process (converting fire service related training into college credit), please contact our office at the above number to meet with Paul Weatherly, Director of Fire Science Program. A student may obtain up to 25% of their AA degree via the credit by certification process. Students may submit petitions for this process through the end of winter quarter 2015.

For students intending to substitute Fire Science courses completed at other accredited colleges or universities or substitute general education courses for those required to complete the AA degree in Fire Science. Course substitution forms may be submitted through winter quarter of 2015. For additional support completing this process contact the above phone number to meet with the director of the program.

Students will need to apply for graduation in June of 2015 no later than November 1st, 2014 to avoid incurring additional graduation fees for applying after this deadline.
