Ian Walker

Faculty - Program Chair

Biography:

My name is Ian Walker and I am the Program Chair of the Geography Department. I was born in England but grew up in the Seattle area. Some of my interests include traveling, exploring food and cuisines, and soccer (both watching and playing).

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science (Global Option) from Washington State University and a Master of Arts in Human Geography from Swansea University in Wales. While my degree was focused on human geography, I have taught several physical geography courses- such as Weather and Climate, the Violent Face of Nature, and Cartography and Landforms. I have recently been interested in and engaged in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and have incorporated an introduction to the field in my Introduction to Geography courses. Building community and an equitable and inclusive classroom are essential facets of my teaching philosophy. I am a firm advocate in active learning and aim to create a safe space where learners of all preferences can grow and learn to view the world through a geographic lens.
