Future Courses:We are working towards the creation of a Certificate of Completion in Phlebotomy. The program will be for college credit and will provide theory and practice to prepare for a position as a certified phlebotomy technician.
Course Descriptions:HPRO 105: Training for Health Care Workers – 2 credits As a health care worker your employer will likely require you to have several types of training. This course provides basic training in CPR, first aid, HIV/ AIDS, HIPAA, and the prevention of workplace violence.
HPRO 141 Phlebotomy Technician 1 – 8 credits Covers basic responsibilities and skills of the laboratory phlebotomist. Content includes venipuncture techniques and safety with laboratory equipment. Course is suitable for individuals with limited health care experience who want to learn how to perform venipunctures. Prerequisites: Hepatitis B immunization and English language assessment test.
HPRO 143 Phlebotomy II Clinical Practicum – 7 credits This course provides a clinical practicum as a laboratory phlebotomist in cooperation with local hospitals. Students completing the practicum will be eligible to take the ASCP certification examination for phlebotomists. Prerequisites: HPRO 141; current CPR card; completed BCC Health Care Immunizations.
