Bellevue College student takes first in regional design competition
Bellevue College interior design student Yalda Daneshfarnia recently took home a first place award in the student category of the 14th annual Northwest Design Awards, sponsored by the Seattle Design Center. Her winning entry originated with a class assignment to assist in the design of a “co-working” space for a Seattle company. She is the fifth BC student to place first in this category since 2006.
A panel of industry experts from the west coast evaluated the submissions, in 14 different categories, based on proportion, composition, use of space, materials and appropriateness of the design solution.
“Yalda exemplifies everything we would like our students to become as a result of studying in our program. She has remarkable talent and an inquisitive mind, and I’m sure we will be seeing her amazing designs in the not-too-distant future,” said Dan Beert, a member of BC’s Interior Design faculty.
Daneshfarnia, a resident of Bellevue, will graduate this year with an associate degree in interior design. She already holds two bachelor’s degrees, in English and in computer systems, and worked as a database programmer for six years before deciding to pursue her passion in interior design.
Bellevue College’s Interior Design program is one of only three in Washington state to earn accreditation. Serving approximately 500 students each year, the program awards certificates, associate degrees and, since 2010, has offered a bachelor’s degree program that graduated its second class last year.
