Overseas Students

 Step 1: Apply to BC

Submit all required documents to the Office of International Education (OIE). Typical processing time is 3-5 business days.

 Step 2: Receive I-20 – Pay I-901 Fee

  • Read the entire acceptance letter and review your I-20 for accuracy.
  • Contact OIE if you find any mistakes on your I-20 form.
  • Pay the I-901 fee (to the US government) at www.fmjfee.com, and print a receipt.

 Step 3: Apply for an F-1 visa

 Step 4: Arrange Housing & Flight

  • BC works with three housing companies to arrange your homestay.  Choose one company and submit directly the required documents and fee to the company.
  • Please do NOT send your housing application and fee to BC.
  • Housing companies typically need 30-days to arrange your housing.
  • Arrange your flight schedule to arrive in Bellevue at least a few days before the mandatory check-in date.
  • If you want airport pick-up service, arrange it directly with your housing company. BC does NOT provide airport pick-up service.

 Step 5: Finish Pre-arrival Online Modules

This is required for all new students. Follow instructions in the acceptance packet.

  • Create a BC NetID and student email account.
  • Use Google Chrome or Firefox to login to CANVAS.
  • Choose “ORIEN101 – ESL INTL STU” course.
  • Complete all modules and all quizzes.

 Step 6: Check-in & Orientation

  • Bring your passport, I-20, visa, your complete local address, a local phone number, and a local emergency contact name and phone number.
  • Be prepared to pay your tuition and fees in full.

 Step 7: Take ESL Placement Test

All new ESL students must take the placement tests in their first term. Tests consist of grammar, reading, writing, speaking, and listening, and take about 2-3 hours.

 Step 8: Pick-up Class Schedule & Buy Textbooks

  • Pick-up Class Schedule: All new students must participate in the new student Orientation with teachers before classes. Students also receive the class schedule during the orientation.
  • Buying Textbooks: After you get your class schedule, you may buy your textbooks at the Bookstore.

 Transfer Students

 Step 1: Apply to BC

Submit all required documents to the Office of International Education (OIE). Typical processing time is 3-5 business days.

 Step 2: Receive electronic acceptance letter

Our admission staff will send you an acceptance letter to you via e-mail. Please check your e-mail frequently.

 Step 3: SEVIS Release

Please submit your acceptance letter to the advisor at your current school and request to have your SEVIS/I-20 record transferred to BC.

 Local, non-F1 Students

Step 6: Insurance Exclusion

  • As a non-F-1 student on BC’s I-20, you are not eligible to receive coverage from the BC-contracted insurance plan.
  • Notify OIE office after your registration every quarter and get the insurance fee waived.
