Vision & Mission

In February 2002, BCC founded a Center for Liberal Arts to strengthen the educational experience of its students, the professional development of its faculty and the cultural life of its community. The Center advocates the importance of liberal studies, fosters civic engagement, promotes excellence in research, scholarship and teaching and presents public arts and cultural programs.

The Center strives to provide students with the knowledge, commitment, resilience and creativity they need for life and work in the 21st century. Its activities are organized to support the following student competencies:

  1. Commitment to be informed and engaged citizens on campus, in our democracy and in the world;
  2. Research and analytical skills grounded in interdisciplinary learning;
  3. Strong critical thinking skills and powers of expression;
  4. Ability to use academic knowledge to inform personal judgments, decisions and actions and, contrastingly, the habit to question academic knowledge through the lens of life experiences.
  5. A sense of personal creativity and individual voice.
