Accounting program to host industry leaders at end-of-year event

The Bellevue College accounting program will host industry leaders, including Doug Sleeter at their third annual year-end celebration May 30 on the Eastside college campus’ N201 building.
The day-long event, which is free and open to the public, will include presentations on construction, sustainability and specialty accounting; discussions on industry trends; and hold skill-building workshops on interviewing and networking.
“This event is a celebration of our commitment to the accounting profession and continual learning,” Accounting Program Chair Rosemary Hall said. “Our students have the opportunity to network with industry professionals while at the same time we provide a valuable experience for accounting professionals to remain up-to-date with current accounting trends.”
Keynote speaker Doug Sleeter is a CPA veteran best known for his expertise in QuickBooks as well as driving the adoption of online accounting and small business process solutions. CPA Practice Advisor has recognized Sleeter as one of the “Top 25 Thought Leaders” in the accounting profession for the past several years and he has been named to Accounting Today’s “Top 100 Most Influential People in Accounting” each year since 2008.

Bellevue College has offered accounting courses since 1980 and joined the Institute of Business and Information Technology in 2010. The program offers a two-year degree in accounting as well as five different certificates that include Accounting Information Systems and Financial Data Reporting. While completing the program, students have the opportunity to become QuickBooks Certified as well as gaining a national certification from the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers. The degrees and certificates offer a blend of accounting theory, practical application and information systems.
