NSF funds genomics research at BCC

BCC science students are going beyond soaking up knowledge to actually creating it in ongoing, original genomics research under a $478,000 National Science Foundation grant.

 

Results will be deposited in the global genomic data library for further use by other researchers.

 

The organism assigned to BCC for analysis may eventually be used to protect wheat and barley from root disease. (more)

DNA sequencer

BCC Life Science Instructor Dr. Gita Bangera describes the high-impact learning opportunities made possible by a new DNA sequencer (center), to State Attorney General Rob McKenna, a member of the BCC Foundation Board of Directors. The sequencer was purchased through a major gift to the Foundation.


US Labor Dept. awards BCC $1.8 million
BCC has received a $1.8 million grant from the U.S. Dept. of Labor to address severe shortages of health-care workers locally and statewide. (more)


$1 million in new grants push
BCC’s NSF total over $10 million

Two National Science Foundation grants totaling $1 million have been awarded to BCC for projects to enhance and recruit students into science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The new grants push BCC's total 12-year support from NSF past $10 million. (more)


BCC students tied for 1st, 4th nationally
after first round of math competition

Two BCC students are tied for first and fourth places nationally, and the BCC team as a whole is tied for second, after the first round of the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges’ annual Student Math League competition. (more)
