BCC to host Brazilian political scientist as Fulbright Visiting Scholar
BELLEVUE, WASH. -- Bellevue Community College has been selected to host Fulbright Visiting Scholar Dr. Eduardo R. Gomes from Brazil for the remainder of the 2004-05 academic year.
This is the college’s third international scholar-in-residence and the second consecutive scholar sponsored by the Fulbright Program. A repeat of a Fulbright Visiting Scholar award is a rare honor for colleges and universities.
Dr. Gomes is a political scientist from Rio de Janeiro. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago and is Associate Professor of Political Science at the Universidade Federal Fluminense, near Rio, where he is also chairman of the graduate program of political science.
At BCC Dr. Gomes will teach Latin American history with an emphasis on comparative governments and political and economic development. During Winter Quarter at BCC, he will teach Political Science 103, which will explore international relations, and lead student and faculty seminars on related topics.
Dr. Gomes also will be available for presentations and discussions in the community. To arrange a lecture, contact Diane Douglas, executive director of BCC’s Center for Liberal Arts, at (425) 564-2550, or by email at ddouglas@bcc.ctc.edu.
BCC’s scholar-in-residence program, now entering its third year, is a project of the Center for Liberal Arts, which was established in 2002 to strengthen the liberal arts experience of BCC students, faculty and community and to affirm the central value of a liberal arts education in preparing students for the 21st century.
