BCC parent education event to show how you can encourage early literacy skills by singing with your child
BELLEVUE, WASH.– Can you encourage early literacy development by singing with your child? Tom Hunter believes so and will discuss his approach at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in a lecture at Bellevue Community College’s Carlson Theatre.
A fun, dynamic speaker, Hunter will discuss the powerful impact music has on developing brains. Parents will gain practical tips on using songs to enhance early literacy development and nurture creativity.
Hunter, who conducts seminars for the Bureau of Education and Research and is co-founder of the Northwest Teachers Conference, has been singing and writing songs for children and families since the 1970s.
HarperCollins Publishers developed one of his songs into a picture book, and many artists, including Willie Nelson, have recorded his songs.
Hunter’s lecture is sponsored by Bellevue Community College’s Parent Education Program Parent Advisory Committee.
Tickets for the program are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.
