New degrees in engineering, business,
and elementary and math education

BCC launches six new degree programs
designed for smooth transfer to UW,
other state universities

BELLEVUE, WASH. – Six associate degree programs in engineering, elementary education and math education, all designed specifically to transfer seamlessly to state universities offering bachelor’s degrees in those fields, are being launched at Bellevue Community College this fall.

Called “Direct Transfer Agreement/Major Related Programs" (DTA-MRPs), the new offerings are designed to ensure that transfer students are as well prepared with prerequisite courses for their university majors as students who begin their college study at the universities.

BCC’s six new transfer associate degree programs are:

    ● Associate in Elementary Education

    ● Associate in Math Education

    ● Three engineering programs leading to an Associate in Science: Chemical and Bio-Engineering; Electrical and Computer Engineering; and Civil, Mechanical and Other Engineering

    ● Associate in Business.

Community college transfer students make up more than 40% of the bachelors-degree graduates each year at the University of Washington and other state universities, on average, with the single largest contingent coming from Bellevue Community College.

BCC also is launching its first bachelor’s degree program this fall. The Bachelor of Applied Science in Radiation and Imaging Sciences is intended for students who have already achieved national certification in radiologic technology, diagnostic ultrasound, radiation therapy or nuclear medicine.

Major-related associate transfer degrees are the product of a collaboration among Washington’s universities, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges and the Higher Education Coordinating Board, who are working together to smooth the transfer of community college students into specific majors at the state’s public universities.

Other BCC transfer associate degrees designed to prepare students for junior- and senior-year bachelor’s degree study include:

    ● Associate in Arts and Sciences-Direct Transfer Degree, which transfers to all of Washington’s state universities;

    ● Associate in Science, which is offered in two tracks: Track I-Biological and Environmental Resources, Chemistry and Earth Science, which focuses on life sciences, and Track II- Physics and Atmospheric Science, which focuses on physical sciences.

    ● Associate in Applied Science-T in Early Childhood Education, which transfers to Washington State University;

    ● Associate in Applied Science-T in Administration of Criminal Justice, which transfers to the University of Phoenix.

More information on BCC’s degree programs is available on-line at www.bellevuecollege.edu/catalog/degrees/transfer.asp

Nationally-recognized for innovative educational programs, Bellevue Community College is the third largest educational institution in Washington state, behind only the University of Washington and Washington State University.

Serving approximately 35,000 students each year, BCC offers transfer study (the first two years of college); work-related programs in information technology, health sciences and many other fields; and developmental programs in adult basic education and English as a Second Language.

BCC’s Continuing Education division offers programs in computing, various work-related topics, art, travel, languages and personal enrichment, as well as business contract training and small business development.
