New science-technology building to add 22 classrooms and labs at BCC
BELLEVUE, WASH. -- Construction on a $31 million science and technology building at Bellevue Community College is expected to begin July 9.
The three-story, 64,000 square foot building will house 22 classrooms and labs to serve the college’s life sciences and chemistry programs.
The facility will serve approximately 2,000 students each year, or about half the number of students taking science courses at the college.
The building is scheduled to be completed by late fall of 2008.
“This new facility will add greatly to our teaching capacity in areas that are critical to our region,” said BCC President Jean Floten. “Every
student who plans to go on to earn a four-year degree needs to take a laboratory
science course, and providing sufficient lab space has become a major challenge.”
The facility will become the eleventh instructional building on the college’s
main campus. It will be located on Landerholm Circle near the center of
the 96-acre campus, immediately to the east of the Student Services building
(B Building).
Portions of the parking lots that serve the college’s radio station, KBCS 91.3 FM, and the offices of Eastern Washington University @ BCC will be used for construction staging. However, access to those buildings and to the east entrance of the college’s
parking garage will be maintained throughout the project.
The Miller Hull Partnership is the architect for the project. M.A. Mortenson Company is the general contractor and construction manager.
