Los Alamos scientist to discuss plans for elevator into space in May 11 lecture at BCC
BELLEVUE, WASH. – Ride a 60-mile high elevator into space? It could happen, and astrophysicist Dr. Bryan Laubscher, one of the driving forces behind the concept, will explain how at Bellevue Community College May 11.
The free, public event will begin at 3:30 p.m. in BCC’s Library Media Center, located in Building D on the college’s main campus (3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.).
Laubscher, a long-time researcher at Los Alamos National Laboratory, recently launched a Seattle-based company to develop the extraordinarily strong-yet-light-weight materials that will be needed to build the elevator.
The lecture is sponsored by “Sum of All Forces,” the BCC student physics club.
