War-novel author Tim O’Brien scheduled for
May 16 lecture, reception and book-signing at BCC

BELLEVUE, WASH. – Tim O’Brien, author of the Viet Nam war novel, The Things They Carried, will discuss his book and his own war experiences in a free, public lecture at 7:30 p.m. May 16 in Carlson Theatre on Bellevue Community College’s main campus (located at 3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.).

 

A public reception for O'Brien will be held at 6 p.m. that evening in BCC’s Gallery Space (room D271, near the south end of the D Building second floor).

 

O'Brien also will be available to sign books after the lecture.

 

The lecture is part of a month-long calendar of free, public “Hands-On Democracy” events focused on issues of war and peace. “Hands-On Democracy” is an ongoing program of BCC’s Center for Liberal Arts.

The series is co-sponsored by BCC’s Campus Activities Board, Drama Department, KBCS 91.3 FM community radio station, Library Media Center and Phi Theta Kappa honor society, with assistance from the King County Library System, Humanities Washington, Hugo House and BCC Center for Liberal Arts Fellow Dr. James Maynard.
