Former presidential advisor, UN representative Brewster Denny to keynote BCC’s June 1 forum on “Repairing US–UN Relations”
BELLEVUE, WASH. – International policy sage and University of Washington Professor Brewster Denny will deliver the keynote address to a free, public symposium at Bellevue Community College June 1 on the topic of “Repairing U.S.-U.N. Relations for the 21st Century.”
Prof. Denny will speak at 11:30 a.m. in room 201 of BCC’s N Building, at the south end of the college’s main campus (located at 3000 Landerholm Circle S.E., Bellevue, at the intersection of S.E. 28th St. and 148th Ave. S.E.).
Additional presentations will be made by students from Bellevue and Yakima Valley community colleges, beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the same location.
Prof. Denny’s long career in international policy includes service as an advisor to President Lyndon B. Johnson, U.S. Representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations, and U.S. National Academy of Sciences science policy advisor for Thailand, Korea, the Philippines and Jordan.
Prof. Denny founded and served as the first dean of the University of Washington’s Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs, where he continues to teach.
The symposium at BCC culminates a series of seminars this year on the United Nations’ role in international peace and security, presented at five Washington community colleges.
The program is sponsored by the United Nations Association of Seattle and the librarians and faculty of the participating colleges, with additional assistance from BCC Center for Liberal Arts Fellow Dr. James Maynard, who is a former U.N. advisor to governments in Africa, the Middle East and Asia, and Dr. Trevor McMorris Tate, Interim Chairman of the BCC Social Science Division and an instructor in international studies.
