Admission Requirements

To be considered for admission to the ADN program, applicants must comply with the following prerequisites at the time of application to the program.  Documentation (transcripts and/or assessment scores) must be included with the application:

n High school GPA is not considered a factor if the applicant has completed at least 15 credits from the General Education Requirements.  (Applicants may be admissible with completion of at least 15 credits in General Education Requirements (which may include Biology 101 and English 101) with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.)

Regardless of high school GPA, students are not admitted into the nursing program with a cumulative GPA of less than 3.0 in courses used to satisfy the General Education Requirements (see page 2).

If at least 15 credits of General Education Requirements are completed with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 2.0 in each course, then a high school transcript is not required with application unless the transcript is needed as proof of high school chemistry completion.

n Completion of English 101

(Written Expression) with a grade of C or better. May be used as an elective.

n Completion of Chemistry 101 OR
1 year of High School Chemistry
with a grade of C or better.  No time limit is placed on the acceptance of this requirement.

n Completion of Math

(Intermediate Algebra Math 099) with a grade of B- or better within 5 years of application, OR assessment into Math 105 Pre-Calculus via a BCC Assessment test within two quarters of application. Credit for college level math may be considered if math has been completed within the past five years.  2000-2005

Completion of Compass

Reading assessment with a score of 80 or above within 2 years of application.  Copy of score must be submitted.

Placement test appointments can be made at 564-2243.  If a Math Placement score is used to meet this requirement, the placement must be for Math 105 or above; Math 107 is not an acceptable substitute.

Additional Information

Students must meet the Admission Requirements to be admitted into the ADN Program. Admission is selective and competitive. Historically, students admitted have been those who have completed all/most of the General Education Requirements (see page 3).

BIO 260 & BIO 261 must be completed prior to enrollment in the nursing program. This is not a requirement for application; however, completion of all 44 General Ed credits will enhance your position for acceptance.

The expectations related to computer skills and knowledge are: keyboarding; word processing; and ability to access Internet, conduct a literature search, and obtain course materials in this web-supported program. If your skills are below this level, you must take a computer course that will eliminate the deficiencies.

The license to practice nursing in the State of Washington is granted by the Washington State Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission.  To be eligible to write the NCLEX (the nursing licensure exam), this commission requires applicants to provide information about physical/mental conditions and any filed criminal charges.

On acceptance to the program, the student will be asked to complete a Washington State Patrol form. The completion of this form is required by clinical facilities.

The applicant should be aware that some clinical facilities are fingerprinting students for federal background checks and are randomly screening for drug usage.

For those interested in obtaining a BSN, BCC has an articulation agreement with the UW Bothell campus. The financial impact to you will be lessened by completing 2 years at BCC, being successful on NCLEX, and then completing the remaining year at UW Bothell.
