Traffic Fines

Campus Public Safety Officers patrol the campus (including North Campus) on foot, bicycles and in patrol vehicles. Officers initiate making vehicle stops for violations of traffic laws, which are applicable on all campus properties. Enforcement action may include a disciplinary referral to the Dean of Students or enforcement action including citation and arrest depending on the specific violation, incident and totality of the circumstances.

Failing to yield to an emergency vehicle is a separate criminal offense. You are required by state law to yield to a campus Public Safety emergency vehicle whenever it displays emergency lights and/or activates its siren. Campus patrol cars are fully marked with public safety markings, emergency lights and sirens.

Enforcement action is taken to enforce state traffic laws which include, but are not limited to speeding, negligent or reckless driving, failing to obey a traffic control device (stop sign), failing to yield to pedestrians, and all other traffic laws. If an officer stops you, you are required to identify yourself. Failure to do so can result in both disciplinary action being initiated as well as enforcement action up to and including arrest and impounding of your vehicle.
