New Honda Hybrid on Campus

Last month Bellevue College purchased a brand new Honda Civic hybrid vehicle to provide more options for BC staff when running errands around campus. Bellevue College already has 4 hybrid Ford trucks, which are used by staff as utility vehicles in making trips around BC. The Honda hybrid boasts impressive gas mileage at 44 mpg in the city and 47 mpg on the highway, helping to save Bellevue College money and continuing efforts to reduce our campus’s environmental impact. Features include an intelligent Multi-Information Display (IMID) screen as well as a keyless, push-to-start engine. The hybrid was funded out of the “Motor Pool” fund which is allocated specifically for the purchase and maintenance of Bellevue College’s utility vehicle fleet. The hope in purchasing this new Honda Hybrid vehicle is that staff will choose to use BC hybrid fleet cars rather than their personal vehicles when running campus-related errands. Rather than reimbursing gas costs for personal vehicle use, Bellevue College wants to make the process easier, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly for faculty to get what they need to get done accomplished.

The Honda Hybrid is currently being set to release sometime this Spring quarter. Finalizing details such as establishing an efficient and easy checkout system are currently in the works, as well as wrapping the vehicle with Bellevue College logos and branding.

The Office of Sustainability at Bellevue College is excited of our campus’ decision to purchase this hybrid. Choosing alternative transportation options helps reduce our campus’ environmental impact. More announcements on how to try out the brand new Honda hybrid in next months newsletter!
