Interior Design & Sustainability

These Interior Design students have been busy! Tammie, Tiffany, Dena, and Hannah have been working towards their LEED Green Associate certification. LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, and is a green building program that recognizes best-in-class building strategies and practices. Under the guidance of John Passmore, the students worked with the Office of Sustainability to conduct an audit on the L building. They looked for energy, waste, and water issues and made recommendations to improve the sustainability of the building. “The audit component was great because it had me looking for things in buildings that I normally wouldn’t have looked for”, said Tiffany. The students will be taking the Green Associates exam at the end of August to gain their certification. Through this course, they have gained valuable skills in critically assessing spaces and making design improvements that benefit both the user and the environment.
