350 Seattle: Building a grassroots movement for climate justice

350 Seattle is building a passionate grassroots movement for climate justice. We believe that climate change is a problem so overwhelming that only people power can begin to solve it. Using tools ranging from policy and advocacy to direct action, we inspire people to fight for the deep and lasting changes necessary to ensure a thriving planet.Since the election, 350 Seattle has been getting inquiries from people all over the state interested in starting 350 local groups–including people from Skagit County.

We’re excited to help incubate new groups because we’ve seen how much we can accomplish by working together. In just four years, 350 Seattle has grown from a scrappy little upstart to having a reach of over 11,000 people. We were a leader in the ShellNo! campaign that helped push Shell out of the Arctic. We took 2,000 people to Anacortes for Break Free, and the Gates Foundation and City of Seattle both responded to our campaigns, selling over $187 million worth of fossil fuel stocks and committing to remove over $3 billion from Wells Fargo, respectively.

Can you imagine how much we’ll accomplish with groups all over the state?

A small group of us have already started meeting to discuss forming a 350 Eastside—but we’re looking for additional members who can dedicate time and skills to helping us get this off the ground, as well as folks interested in heading up a work group around a particular issue.
