Eligibility

 

Who is eligible for the Worker Retraining Program?

You may be eligible for the Worker Retraining Program (WRP) if you meet one of the following categories:

•You are currently receiving or are eligible to receive unemployment benefits;

•You have exhausted your unemployment benefits within the past 24 months;

•You have been self-employed, but are now unemployed due to economic changes in your community;

•You are a displaced homemaker;

•You are an unemployed veteran that was honorably discharged within the past 24 months;

•You are a vulnerable worker. If you are currently working and meet 2 of the 3 criteria below;

•Your job is "not in demand"
•You do not have a degree or certificate of 45 credits
•You must upgrade your skills in order to remain employed in your current job

 

DEFINITIONS

  • Unemployment Benefits - Individuals on unemployment insurance, those who have received a warn/layoff notice, or who have exhausted their benefits within the last 24 months.
  • Self-employed - Formerly self-employed individual who is now unemployed as a result of general economic conditions in the community in which the individual resides or because of natural disasters.
  • Displaced homemakers - An individual who has been providing unpaid services in their home and who has been dependent on the income of another family member but is no longer supported by that income due to separation, divorce, death, permanent disability or unemployment of the primary wage earner, and is unemployed or underemployed and is experiencing difficulty in obtaining or upgrading employment.
  • Vulnerable Worker - An individual who is currently working and meet 2 of the 3 following criteria; •Their job is "not in demand" according to the demand/decline list for the local labor market •They do not have 45 college credits *and* a degree or certificate •They must upgrade their skills in order to remain employed in their current job
