WorkFirst ESL / Customer Service

Our training program offers students:

  • Basic English in speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • Basic computer skills in keyboarding, word-processing, and email
  • Internet job search skills
  • English pronunciation
  • Speech communication for the workplace
  • Service Learning volunteer experience
  • Job placement assistance

 

Beginning Level

The beginning level of BCC ’s WorkFirst ESL emphasizes customer service communication. Equipped for the Future skills are integrated into the course work to promote job success and retention. The training includes computer basics and internet job searches. Students are introduced to basic workplace hiring procedures including cultural differences in getting and keeping work in the U.S.

 

Intermediate Level

The intermediate level of WorkFirst ESL stresses job success by building on ability to express oneself, listen and follow through on instructions, work with others and request assistance as needed. The class teaches workplace competencies in areas of customer service including telephone skills, verbal directions, language of meetings, dealing with mistakes and asking for clarification. Students are taught written communication techniques using e-mail, internet and word processing tools.

 

You may be eligible for WorkFirst ESL/Customer Service if you meet all 3 qualifications:

  1. You are receiving Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) or your family's income meets income guidelines
  2. You have valid permission to work in the U.S.
  3. You have dependent children
