The World Languages Department at Bellevue College offers courses in Arabic, ASL, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and Spanish. The faculty represents an extensive range of interests and is committed to excellence.
The Department recognizes the need for World Languages proficiency in today’s changing world. We are dedicated professionals who provide instruction and guidance to our students, and we are an integral part of the humanities. Every effort is made to teach students to think clearly and critically, to make logical and ethical judgments and to communicate effectively with others, thus overcoming cultural and language barriers. It is a pleasure to share with you our passion for other languages and cultures.

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The purpose of the World Languages Program at Bellevue College is to prepare our diverse group of students to act as global citizens through a journey of language acquisition.  This involves language instruction utilizing both innovative and time tested technologies and methods that present students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in the language and ways of another culture, and to experience the exhilaration of learning to communicate in a new way, with new people.
