
WHEREAS, Bellevue College was founded in 1966 as a small community college with fewer than 500 students, and since that time over 450,000 people have taken classes; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College has opened the door to higher education for countless Issaquah residents; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College offers educational opportunities at low tuition rates from bachelor’s degrees, associate degrees and certificate programs to adult education, lifelong learning and dual credit options for high school students; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College is a dedicated community partner, annually adding $172 million into our regional economy; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College partners with our local businesses, over 1,800 in the region, which provides opportunities for 11,000 students to train each year; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College students have earned more than 55,800 degrees, certificates and other awards such as high school diplomas and pre-employment certifications; and
WHEREAS, Bellevue College provides lifelong learning opportunities for all ages in the Issaquah community;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Fred Butler, Mayor of the City of Issaquah, do hereby proclaim this week of October 10-16, 2016 to celebrate
50 YEARS OF BELLEVUE COLLEGE
in the City of Issaquah and I call upon the citizens of Issaquah to join in recognizing and expressing their appreciation for the role Bellevue College has served in our community; and
