Class Expectations:
· You should plan to attend class every day and arrive on time. Regular absence will hurt your grade. Students with 12 absences or more will receive an F grade in this class. If you are absent 10 or 11 times, you will receive a D grade.
· You are expected to participate in class discussions and activities.
· This is an English only classroom.
· It is important to show respect for each other in this class. We are all here to learn and can learn a lot from each other.
· You should come to class prepared. If you are absent, you are still responsible for homework and material covered. . If you are absent, make arrangements to get the homework from a classmate.
· When you have questions, you should ask them.
· Turn off cellular phones before coming to class.
· You must do your own work. If I believe you have plagiarized your work, it will be returned to you, ungraded.

Grading:
Students must have a point average of 75% or higher to pass this class. Students with 12 absences or more will receive an F grade in this class. If you are absent, make arrangements to get the homework from a classmate. If you are absent 10 or 11 times, you will receive a D grade.
You will have a midterm and final examination as well as numerous reading quizzes during the quarter. Final exams will not be given early and students who don’t take the final exam will have their grades lowered one full mark. You must pass the final exam in order to move up to level 5.
All written assignments unless otherwise stated should be typed, double-spaced and in size 12 font. All written work should have your full name/date/assignment listed in the upper right corner. Assignments are due at the beginning of the class period on the due date. Late assignments will lose ten points for each day it is late and will not be accepted more than two days after the due date.
You will have four or five graded essays that you produce outside of class and four graded in-class timed essays.
You will receive progress reports both at mid-term and at the end of the quarter. Your grade will depend on the quality of your work, your effort, and your ability. Your grade will be based on scores on your essays, quizzes and tests, and the effort you make in participation.
Grade Scale:
A = 93 - 100%
B = 84 - 92%
C = 75 - 83%
D = Below 75% - Satisfactory Effort - Repeat Level
F = Below 75% - Unsatisfactory Effort - Repeat Level
