"THE PERFECT PAPER
AIRPLANE" (WORTH 300 POINTS)
Your group has been commissioned to design
the "perfect" paper airplane.
Such an airplane will be capable of flying from Stair 6, on the
Northwest corner of the “B” building of
You (as a member of a design team) will
design the airplane and write the assembly manual. I will follow your instructions as literally
as possible and conduct a flight test while you observe.
You may use any paper and any technique
you wish. When the group writes the
assembly/instruction manual, a few simple rules will apply.
1.
The manual must be written as a narrative. Thus, you may not do a list of numbered (or lettered)
steps.
2.
The reader will have only one chance to assemble the airplane, and he/
she will have to do so sequentially. She
or he will not be allowed to back up to correct a mistake, but must get it
"right" the first time or fly whatever results.
3.
You must explain the purpose of any special features or assembly
techniques.
4.
You
may not provide any additional assistance.
Assembly must be possible from the written instructions ALONE.
5.
The
airplane must have wings which provide primary lift.
6.
No
incendiary devices (such as rocket engines) are allowed. The airplane may not endanger either the
operator or members of the campus community.
ALL MEMBERS OF A DESIGN TEAM WILL BE PAID
THE AMOUNT THE ENTIRE GROUP EARNS.
ASSEMBLY AND FLIGHT TEST WILL PROCEED FRIDAY,
DECEMBER 10.
