Text Book: Al-Kitaab Fii Ta’allum al-Arabiyya (with DVDs) 2nd Edition.

By: Kristen Brustad- Abbas Al-Tonsi- Mahmoud Al-Batal (available at the bookstore).

Additional materials will be supplied on as-needed basis.

The Oxford Picture Dictionary. Norma Shapiro and Jayme Adelson-Goldstein.

Course Description and Objectives:

Welcome to Arabic 102. This course is a continuation of Arabic 101 and is designed for students who have some basic knowledge of Arabic (including the Arabic Alphabet), or have completed Arabic 101 or equivalent course work. This course will go further into details of grammar, along with building more vocabulary and improving reading and speaking skills, and emphasizes basic Arabic sentence structure and conversation.

This course is a combination of lecture, discussion, exercises, and communicative language activities.

Successfully completing this course, students should be able to read elementary passages in Arabic and answer brief questions. Moreover, students should have knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

-The rules of Arabic grammar.

-Arabic nouns, verbs / adverbs, possessive pronouns, and more about questions.

-Development and comprehension of Arabic vocabulary.

-The culture/diversity of the Arab world.

-Use of Arabic/English dictionary

-Learning Arabic is challenging but a highly rewarded process that requires patience and   practice. We are all going to make this class a fun experience.

 

Course Requirements:

Attending and participating in all class activities are very important.

Doing homework assignments is essential to keep up with new materials and    

   assignments throughout the quarter.

Prepare for the upcoming lesson. This is a daily assignment.

You are expected to do all exercises / drills in your Text Book.

Please submit your Home Work in order and stapled together.

Your final grade will be based on the following components:
