** Buy or borrow the first book listed
above: “Send me a Message”. You will need this for the online assignments.
You can purchase these books at the Bookstore, BCC. If you keep the books in
good condition, you can sell them back to the bookstore later. The BCC library
has some books for short term loan. Send me a Message is not available in
the public library system. I
recommend that you get the book this week ready for the first class.
·
There will be
one to two hours of online work in addition to classroom time. You must
complete this work every week. You will
need access to a computer.
·
You will need a notebook, a pen, and a binder or a folder
for your handouts. Bring them to each
class.
·
Come to class on time.
·
Participate actively in class (work in groups/pairs, ask
questions).
·
Be polite and respect your classmates. During class discussions, when a person is
speaking, please do NOT interrupt that person.
We learn from each other and it is important to aim for an equal balance
in class discussions and encourage every student to participate. Even when we have different ideas and
opinions, we must treat one another with respect. Professional student behavior is expected at
all times.
If you can complete these requirements
you are eligible to join the class ‘On the Job Communications’. I look forward to working with you next
quarter.

Students with disabilities must progress like other
students. You should tell the teacher
about your disability, special illness, or your need for special arrangements
in class.
If you want to know about Disability Support Services
(DSS), call 564-2498 or go to the DSS office in room B233-G.
We do not wish other people (parents,
spouses, and friends of students) to speak for students about school
performance because this can slow student growth and progress. We do this because we would like
students to speak for themselves and be independent. We also do it because federal law (the Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act) says that we must protect the privacy of
student education records. It is BCC
policy to keep school performance between the school and the student. If a
student asks for a parent, spouse, or friend to be at any instructor-student
discussion of academic performance, instructors will look at each situation and
make the final decision. You can see all of this policy, Arts and Humanities Commitment to Student Growth and Development, at
www.bcc.ctc.edu/artshum
The students in this program often like to do nice
things for their teachers at the end of the quarter. A card with words from all
the students, flowers and food are good ways to thank your teacher. You do not
need to buy your teacher a gift or give money.
