COURSE OBJECTIVES: Students who complete this
course should be able to:
1. Read closely and analytically
2. Generate ideas for writing based on what
they read
3. Write analytical essays and objective
summaries
4. Organize their essays logically
5. Develop their essays with examples and
explanations
6. Proofread and revise their work
7. Work effectively in a group setting
8. Edit their own and their classmates’
writing
9.
Understand the relationship between writer, text, and audience
10. Know the stages of the writing process
11. Be familiar with the vocabulary used in a
composition class
12. Have a sound understanding of the conventions
of Standard English
13. Understand the relationship between reading,
writing, and analysis
COURSE CONTENT: Over the next ten weeks you
will read assigned texts, engage in free-writing, write summaries, write
essays, make presentations, take quizzes, and take part in classroom
discussions and activities.

ATTENDANCE: Participation accounts for 20% of your grade for the course.
