Michael Collier joins the Criminal Justice Department to teach Principles of Criminal Investigation (CJ-202) Introduction to Forensics (CJ-240), bringing fifteen years of federal investigative experience to the classroom. He served as a Special Agent with the Bureau of ATF’s Seattle Field Division, where he worked as a Certified Explosives Specialist and Digital Media Collection Specialist \u2014 processing crime scenes, collecting and analyzing physical and digital evidence, and testifying in federal court as both a fact witness and lead case agent. He holds a Doctor of Forensic Science from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Administration, and a graduate certificate in Explosives Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology, along with dual bachelor’s degrees from Towson University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Michael has been teaching adult learners for well over a decade \u2014 instructing digital and mobile device forensics to law enforcement across more than twenty agencies, delivering post-blast investigation curriculum to public-safety professionals throughout the Pacific Northwest, and assisting in the development of new federal agents into court-ready investigators. He believes forensics should never be taught as an abstraction, and that a student’s understanding is the instructor’s responsibility first. His classroom emphasizes plain language before terminology, real cases over textbook scenarios, and feedback timely enough to act on.
