What We're All About

The Volunteer Literacy Program is an integral part of the Developmental Education Program at Bellevue College. Volunteers of all ages, educational and cultural backgrounds donate their time and talents helping our adult learners achieve their personal and professional goals.

The Developmental Education Program offers clases for adults who wish to:

  • Improve their skills in English as a Second Language,
  • Prepare for the GED (General Education Development) test,
  • Improve general basic academic skills such as reading and math

The mission of the Volunteer Literacy Program is to establish and support an environment for tutorial partnerships in which students from ABE classes can acquire ability and confidence in their educationsl, vocational and life goals. Tutor sessions are focused on student needs and interests. Instructors and volunteers follow the Washington State Core Competencies and Learning Standards which are life based.
