OUTCOMES:

·        To understand basic aesthetic theory and apply it to selections of prose, poetry and visual arts

·        To learn and practice concepts of magazine layout and design

·        To become aware of audience needs and demands

REQUIREMENTS

As a staff member for BC’s literary magazine, you’ll be expected to:

1)     Participate in all staff meetings on  (with more than 4 missed meetings grounds for a failing grade)

2)     If the staff decides to use a hybrid format, participate in all online discussions, which will be open 7 days, from one in-person meeting to the next.  Staff members will post at least once that week (for instance, with an update on a task), and if multiple questions are posed, will respond to all questions and ideally to each other.

3)     Complete all assigned tasks in developing, advertising and preparing the magazine, to be determined

4)     Complete an end-of-quarter, typed assessment of approximately 1200 words, about the experience of serving on the literary magazine and your role in it, including recommendations for future magazines.

Read, review all submissions

Make selections

Revise site for magazine

 

Week 9-Week 10, March 4-March 15

Post submissions to website

Prepare announcement of its debut

Send out acceptance/rejection letters

Finalize costs for English department

Plan spring literary reading         

Develop poster for next year

Write/Discuss individual assessments

Write/Discuss outcomes for future class
