That fall, one of the most powerful solar flares ever recorded led to fantastic displays of Aurora across the United States.\u00a0\u00a0I found myself staring up in awe as half the sky was illuminated in shimmering red, green, purple, and iridescent white light.\u00a0\u00a0I was hooked!\u00a0\u00a0It was my first of many observations as I eventually progressed towards a PhD degree in Astronomy and Astrophysics at the University of Michigan. During that journey, I spent over a month conducting observations at the world class 6-meter Magellan telescopes at Las Campanas Observatory in Chile for my PhD Dissertation on Massive Star Formation in Sparse Environments.\u00a0 Back in Michigan,\u00a0as instructor of a fully planetarium-based introductory astronomy course,\u00a0I discovered that my true calling was in the classroom and specifically in planetarium education.\u00a0\u00a0I am grateful to be a faculty member at Bellevue College where I can share my passion for astronomy with students and the community\u00a0using our\u00a0fantastic digital planetarium and amazing collection of telescopes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3463,"featured_media":418,"parent":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-387","staff","type-staff","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/387","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/staff"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3463"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/387\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":420,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/staff\/387\/revisions\/420"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/418"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/astronomy\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=387"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
