The Bellevue College women\u2019s golf team kept up their winning ways and captured first place at the Cardinal Classic hosted by Skagit Valley College the weekend of May 5-6. Blue skies, hot temperatures and fast greens greeted the players for the two-day event played at the beautiful and challenging Avalon Golf Club in Burlington. Freshman standout Suchada Anusuriya again had a strong tournament finishing in second place, three shots behind the winner from Trinity Lutheran. Bulldog sophomores Corey Rois and Kayce Ogishima tied for eighth place, and Jamie Kirsila finished in tenth place. As a team, the Bulldogs took first by five shots over Columbia Basin College. “It was just another great team effort,\u201d said head coach Kirk Johanson. \u201cThe women played on probably the fastest greens we\u2019ve seen all season, with some tough pin placements. They showed great patience on a\u00a0very difficult course and it resulted in another win.<\/p>\n
On the men\u2019s side, Bellevue freshman Jack Strickland had his best finish as a Bulldog taking sixth place individually at the Cardinal Classic. Strickland’s 74 on the final day was the second lowest round of the Monday finish on the challenging course, and he closed with an impressive birdie, par birdie finish. “Jack has steadily improved all year and his hard work is starting to show in his finishes in tournaments,” said Johanson. Other Bellevue men\u2019s scores: Ryan Maul T18, Erik Frank T23, JJ Schultz 32nd place, and Brandon Shin 34th.<\/p>\n
