The Bellevue College softball team finished up its Week of Service, putting in over 200 combined hours to help the local community.<\/p>\n

\"BC<\/a>On Thursday, Sept. 6, the Bulldogs started their week of service and for the sixth straight year, the Dawgs worked with the Food Bank Farm out of Snohomish, Wash.\u00a0 This year, they harvested over 8,300 pounds of corn, to be distributed directly to the local food banks.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs volunteered for the second straight year at the Women of Wonder 5k\/10k event on Sunday, Sept. 9. The event celebrates women survivors of cancer and benefits Team Survivor Northwest, an organization dedicated to empowering women cancer survivors to survive and thrive through fitness, health and wellness services.\u00a0 Over 1,000 runners, decked out in their best Wonder Women outfits, took part in the event and Dawgs helped manage the course, provide water assistance to racers, hand out medals, take finisher pictures, demonstrate yoga and various other tasks.<\/p>\n

\"BC<\/a>The Bulldogs finished up their week of service on Sept. 11 at the Greenwood Senior Center, with whom they have partnered with over a dozen times.\u00a0 The Center’s mission is that of an inclusive community that provides social, physical, and educational activities focused around the needs of older adults; empowering them to live in their homes longer. The Dawgs spent the day at member’s homes pruning, pulling weeds, raking leaves, clearing brush and bringing smiles to the faces of the community!<\/p>\n

“Service to our community is an extremely important part of our program and has an impact way beyond the softball field,” said BC Coach Leah Francis. “All these events help our players understand the greater good they can have on those around them and the pride they can feel for helping those in need.\u00a0 It was an honor to support the efforts of\u00a0 the Food Bank Farm, Team Survivor Northwest and the Greenwood Senior Center!”<\/p>\n
