Peninsula was able to control the game from start to finish due in large part to their goalkeeper who was the NWAACC Tournament MVP in 2010. Bellevue men’s soccer head coach, Tao Shen, said, “Nobody had flustered Peninsula College all year and we out-worked them, but overall it’s just tough to come back from an early 0-2 deficit in the first half. The energy at half-time was electrifying.” Coach Shen went on to praise Bulldogs team co-captain Alan Villavicencio as “the player of the match for us,” noting that Villavicencio has been a tireless worker on and off the pitch.

The Bulldogs then traveled to Bremerton on Saturday, Oct. 22, to play the Olympic College Rangers in what turned out to be another hard-fought, physical match involving four yellow cards and four red cards. After a scoreless first half, Bellevue’s Ebrima (“EJ”) Jatta put the Bulldogs on the board scoring in the 65th minute taking a 1-0 lead. In the final minutes, Bellevue had just nine players on the field due to red cards, giving Olympic a chance to tie the game with a goal in the 90th minute, ending in a 1-1 tie. In almost a replay of the Bulldogs game against Olympic at home October 5, coach Shen said, “Again it came down to the final minutes for the Rangers to tie up the game.” On the Bellevue team coach Shen said, “EJ played an excellent game again with so much composure and aerial dominance. He is by far the best center back in this league. Our starting goalkeeper Ulises Hernandez played an outstanding game. I know he has as much potential as any keeper in this league, and we want to make sure that he’ll succeed in the classroom to be able to move on to next level.”

Still in fourth place in the West, the Bulldogs sit at 3-3-4 in league play, 4-3-5 overall and will host Tacoma CC on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at Sammamish HS with an 8:30 p.m. kickoff.

The Bellevue men’s soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss to #1 ranked Peninsula on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at the Pirates’ home pitch in Port Angeles.
