In the first matchup in what has become the anticipated showdown between the top two teams in the North Region, Bellevue’s women’s volleyball took the upper hand over rival Edmonds with a dramatic win on the road that went all five games, winning 15-11 in the final set.<\/p>\n
Things did not look good early as the Bulldogs committed five errors on the offensive end to quickly fall behind 6-3. Head Coach Jocelyn Lawrence called timeout and the ‘dogs responded with cleaner execution battling back to take the lead 14-13. Zaiah Luna-Calvin led the charge offensively to bring BC back and had a career night with 26 kills.<\/p>\n
Although finally losing set one 25-23, the Bulldogs took sets two 25-20 and three 25-19 before dropping set four 25-21.<\/p>\n
In the fifth and final set, Bellevue appeared on the edge of doom after yielding three straight points to the Tritons, losing an 11-7 lead. Up only 11-10, the Bulldogs got offensive help from not only Luna-Calvin, but Dyamonde Schirmer, Kaileahna McCollum, and the final kill by Yaneli Garcia to close out the win 15-11.<\/p>\n
Luna-Calvin’s offense was anchored by Schirmer (25 assists) and Kyla Bonsen (24 assists).\u00a0 Bellevue is 2-0 in league and 18-7 overall. The ‘dogs host Skagit Valley this Wednesday October 2 at 7:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
