After a disappointing 3-0 loss in the opening round of the NWAC Championships to Tacoma, Bellevue College volleyball showed they can play with anyone with a thrilling 2-1 win in an elimination match against top-ranked North Idaho. Coming into the championships, North Idaho was 27-3 and had not lost a match during league play finish with a perfect 16-0 record.\u00a0 Although BC wasn’t exceptionally sharp in set one, committing 6 errors and a hit percentage of only .143, they were beneficiaries of an uncharacteristically sloppy North Idaho squad which committed 9 errors and a percentage of -.107.<\/p>\n
In set three, Bellevue was strong offensively, getting off 14 kills in a set that should have been dominated by BC. 8 errors by the ‘dogs allowed North Idaho to stay in the set even though the Cardinals had only 3 total kills and a paltry .042 hit percentage. With those numbers, North Idaho was able to keep it interesting as BC held a 13-7 lead at one point and were only 2 points away from the win. The Bulldogs would then proceed to make 7 errors in a row and all of a sudden found themselves down 14-13 at set point. for North Idaho. The potent swing of freshman Zaiah Luna-Calvin then took care of business for Bellevue as two kills, and a third by Yaneli Garcia allowed BC to storm back in heroic fashion for the win.<\/p>\n
