After an explosive first half by host Centralia, Bellevue College men’s basketball rallied for nearly 50 points in the second half but eventually fell 85-73 last night in Centralia.<\/p>\n
In a game like many others this season, the first half was a long range shootout, as 31 of the 68 total attempts from the field were from three-point range. Unfortunately for Bellevue, the Trail Blazers had a huge edge, draining 9-of-18 as compared to Bellevue’s 3-of-13. The 18-point difference in three-point shots, in addition to a huge 23-13 rebounding deficit for the ‘dogs resulted in a 47-27 Centralia lead at halftime.<\/p>\n
In the second half, Bellevue’s defense clamped down, allowing Centralia only eight shots from long range while collecting five steals and outrebounding Centralia 19-16. Freshman Gerald Hood, who was recently inserted into the starting five, had 5 offensive rebounds and 10 points in the second half to lead Bellevue’s comeback. Bellevue cut the deficit from 20 to 12 with 3:32 left on a pair of Trevon Richmond free throws but could not get any closer. Richmond’s 27 points led the way for Bellevue while Jalen Womack added 18 points and 5 rebounds.<\/p>\n
