In their first matchup on Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Bulldogs took on the high-scoring Dolphins of Shoreline. Bellevue controlled the game throughout the first half leading by a score of 46-42 at the half. However, the Dolphins were able to close the gap quickly to start the second half. The last 15 minutes of the game saw multiple lead changes and ties culminating with Bulldog freshman\u00a0<strong>Alex Cameron&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0lay-up with just under 20 seconds remaining to tie the game at 82. Shoreline got the ball out quick and pushed up the court against the reeling Bellevue defense. Before the Bulldogs could set up defensively, they watched a lay-up fall into the net for Shoreline. Down 84-82, Bellevue had two shots to tie the game in the last six seconds, however neither shot fell and Bellevue dropped their second home game in league play.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Bellevue was led in scoring by\u00a0<strong>Daniel Greer<\/strong>\u00a0with 18 points, who also grabbed seven rebounds.\u00a0<strong>Tyler Stracener\u00a0<\/strong>turned in a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Alec Wilson scored 17 points, including four three-pointers.\u00a0<strong>Andrew Squiers<\/strong>\u00a0scored 14 points, with added six rebounds, and\u00a0<strong>Reggie Clinton<\/strong>\u00a0scored 10 points in only 16 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Feb. 9, the Bulldogs welcomed the Trojans of Everett Community College. Coming into the game, Bellevue was tied with Everett and Peninsula College for third place in the North Region standings. Sensing the importance of the matchup with Everett, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead in the opening moments of the game, but Bellevue lost that early momentum and struggled the rest of the game to get it back. Everett continued their run throughout the half finishing the first stanza of play with a 46-33 lead. In the second half, Bellevue was down by as many as 20 points, and although they were able to close the gap to eight points on two separate occasions, the Bulldogs never fully recovered. Bellevue eventually fell to Everett by a final score of 95-80. Bellevue was out-rebounded 36-22 on the night and shot only 33% from the three-point line. Bellevue was led in scoring by\u00a0<strong>Squiers<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Greer<\/strong>\u00a0who scored 20 points each.\u00a0<strong>Clinton<\/strong>\u00a0added 11 points, and freshman\u00a0<strong>Andrew Holloway\u00a0<\/strong>provided a spark off the bench with 11 points of his own.<\/p>\n<p>Bellevue now takes on an uphill battle to reach the NWAACC tournament in March. The Bulldogs are currently tied with Peninsula College for the fourth and final spot. The Bulldogs face their toughest week of the season as they must play the first and second place teams in the North Region over a five-day span. Bellevue travels to Edmonds to face the number-one ranked Tritons (9-1, 19-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. Then, on Sunday, Feb. 17, at 4:00 p.m. the Bulldogs host number-two ranked Whatcom (currently 8-2, 16-6) for Bellevue\u2019s final home game of the regular season. Sunday will also be the Bulldogs\u2019 Sophomore Recognition night which will honor<strong>\u00a0Andrew Squiers, Marcus Tibbs, Tyler Stracener, Jeffrey Kimmel<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Alec Wilson<\/strong>\u00a0for their careers at Bellevue College.\u00a0<strong>Squiers<\/strong>\u00a0also was named to the NWAACC All-Academic Sports Team with a 3.40 cumulative GPA.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bellevue College men's basketball\u00a0team hosted two important league games last week.
