Bellevue College women’s basketball fell 76-73 yesterday afternoon to visiting Whatcom in a battle for first place in the North Region. With both teams entering with 5-1 records, Whatcom emerged as the sole leader at the top as the Bulldogs were ice cold offensively in the first half, netting only 19 total points by halftime, down 35-19.<\/p>\n
Bellevue stormed back offensively in the third and fourth quarters, putting up 27 points each quarter. The 54-point second half was a total contrast to the 19 in the first as Amanda Luckett pulled down a game-high 25 rebounds and tossed in 20 points to lead the charge.<\/p>\n
Down by as much as 10 in the final quarter, Bellevue’s Mo Bungay drilled a three-pointer followed by another bucket for a five-point swing which put BC back in the game at 60-54. Makenna Faulkner’s basket made in 60-56 Whatcom and the see-saw battle then began for the final seven minutes of the game. Faulkner, Luckett, and Bungay kept Bellevue in the game down the stretch as Bungay’s three-pointer with 1:15 left gave the ‘dogs their first lead at 71-70. Whatcom answered right back with five points in a :30 second stretch with clutch shooting putting Bellevue back into catchup mode. Down 76-73 with :05 left, Luckett pulled down her 25th rebound of the game but the squad could\u00a0 not get a three-pointer down in time as time expired.<\/p>\n
