Sophomore Tijohn Rodde led the way with his tenacity on defense as the Bellevue College Bulldogs men’s basketball team won today over visiting Olympic 72-65 at Courter Family Athletic Pavilion. Rodde had 11 rebounds and 4 blocked shots on the defensive front and also had 16 points to lead the ‘dogs.<\/p>\n
Although Bellevue shot relatively poorly in the first half, going 4-for-16 from three-point range and shooting only 29% from the field, Rodde and Trey Lawrence pounded the boards with 6 apiece to keep Olympic from any second opportunities which allowed BC to carry a 31-29 lead into halftime.<\/p>\n
In the second half, the Bulldogs got hot, shooting nearly 50% from the field and took advantage of Olympic fouls as BC went to the line 26 times compared to Olympic’s 8 to pull away from the Rangers. The game was a one-point ball game until just over 11 minutes remaining before Bellevue started to take charge. Lawrence drained both ends of a one-and-one before a three-pointer by Trevon Richmond giving Bellevue a five-point cushion at 53-47. From there on the ‘dogs were never threatened as they went on to victory.<\/p>\n
