{"id":2459,"date":"2013-11-25T11:02:43","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T19:02:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/athletics\/?p=2459"},"modified":"2014-03-25T11:04:22","modified_gmt":"2014-03-25T18:04:22","slug":"womens-basketball-takes-3rd-at-everett-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.bellevuecollege.edu\/athletics\/2013\/11\/25\/womens-basketball-takes-3rd-at-everett-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Women\u2019s Basketball Takes 3rd at Everett Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The BC women\u2019s basketball team traveled to Everett over three\u00a0 days, November 22-24, to compete in the Everett Community College Tournament\u00a0 and came away with a third place finish.\u00a0\u00a0 The Bulldogs finished 2-1 for the weekend,\u00a0 including a statement victory on Friday\u00a0 playing against the defending NWAACC Champions, Lane Community College Titans.<\/p>\n<p>In a non-league game as the opener of the tournament, the\u00a0 Bulldogs were able to build a 14-point lead by halftime and never looked back,\u00a0 defeating Lane 72-58.\u00a0 Four Bellevue\u00a0 players scored in double figures,\u00a0 led by\u00a0 sophomore captain Airashay Rogers who tallied 22 points with six rebounds and\u00a0 five steals.\u00a0 With two minutes left, Lane\u00a0 began fouling to try and cut into the lead, however, the Bulldogs stayed\u00a0 resilient and calm under pressure making 14 of their 17 free throws. Helping to\u00a0 secure the victory for the Bulldogs, Rogers completed 10 of 13 free throws, and\u00a0 Bellevue sophomore Tayler Flemming netted eight of eight free throws, for a\u00a0 total of 15 points on the night. Alexis Berrysmith contributed 12 points and\u00a0 nine rebounds, while Hunter Hopkins had 11 points and six steals.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, following the emotional win from Friday, the\u00a0 Bulldogs lost their first game of the season to East division powerhouse\u00a0 Columbia Basin, 63-51. The Bulldogs fell behind early and were down by 11 by\u00a0 halftime, but came out strong in the second half going on a 15-4 run tying the\u00a0 game at 40 points apiece. The CBC Hawks had a run of their own still left and\u00a0 once again were able to build a lead and finish the game on 23-11 run.\u00a0 The Bulldogs had some good looks at the\u00a0 basket from well-executed set plays down the stretch to cut into the lead,\u00a0 however, there seemed to be an invisible lid over the rim and Bellevue was\u00a0 unable to capitalize on their open opportunities. Bellevue was led by sophomore\u00a0 forward Jori Hall adding 11 points and eight rebounds, while fellow sophomore\u00a0 Maddison Rankin added 10 points of her own.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, November 24, the final day of the tournament,\u00a0 Bellevue rallied to defeat the host Everett Trojans in their third game in as\u00a0 many days to claim third place with a final score Bulldogs 74, Trojans 72.\u00a0 In an up-and-down game, the Bulldogs held on\u00a0 down the stretch, including a defensive stop to finish the game denying\u00a0 Everett\u2019s attempt to tie the game.\u00a0\u00a0 Bellevue\u2019s Hall had a monster game leading the Bulldogs in the victory\u00a0 with 23 points and 13 rebounds helping to set the tone for\u00a0 the Bulldogs, especially in the second half.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulldogs will be back in action in a week and a half when\u00a0 they host the Bellevue Crossover Tournament December 6-8, with seven visiting\u00a0 teams from throughout the NWAACC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The BC women\u2019s basketball team traveled to Everett over three\u00a0 days, November 22-24, to compete in the Everett Community College Tournament\u00a0 and came away with a third place finish.\u00a0\u00a0 The Bulldogs finished 2-1 for the weekend,\u00a0 including a statement victory on Friday\u00a0 playing against the defending NWAACC Champions, Lane Community College Titans.
